Common in water meadows, damp grassland, marshes and woodland edges; 0-700 m (500-1850 m in Europe) throughout much of the British Isles; mainland Europe and Fennoscandia. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight widespread and common. Wingspan 40-50 mm. Larva feeds on Water-cress, Cuckooflower, Garlic Mustard, Hedge Mustard and similar.
