Local in open woodland, heathland and damp meadows; 0-1000 m throughout much of northern Europe. Known from one site on Jersey between 1946 and 1996, where perhaps introduced from France during the war. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 32-38 mm. Larva feeds on Purple Moor-grass and False-brome.
