Local in beech woodland across much of southern England. Fairly widely, but sparsely distributed across much of Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 10-12 mm. The relatively slender and attenuate forewing and the obscure and poorly defined fasciate markings and costal strigulae distinguish this species from
S. nitidana [Bradley]; confusion with
Pammene germmana is also possible. Larva feeds on Beech, living between leaves spun together with silk, and over-wintering as a pupa.
