Recorded infrequently through accidental importation in citrus fruit, usually oranges, from Africa. In Hampshire first recorded at light at Southsea on 10 August 1983, with a second at the same site on 11 August 1995; first recorded on the Isle of Wight on 29 September 1989. Wingspan male 15-16 mm, female 19-20 mm. Larva is an important pest of citrus and other fruits, including avocado pear and guava and maize cobs, cotton bolls, castor-oil seeds and tea seeds and It is unlikely that the species can survive outside the tropics and subtropics [Bradley].
