Rare (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) in grassland and on river-banks in southern England and Wales. In Hampshire recorded from just two localities (Botley Wood and Hookheath Common) and on the Isle of Wight from just one (Havenstreet Wood). Wingspan 14-16 mm. In general appearance resembles the female of
E. scutulana and both sexes of
E. cirsiana but distinguished by its narrower and generally lighter coloured forewing, the underside of which is distinctly lighter, and by the narrower medio-dorsal blotch, the apex of which approaches nearer to the costa [Bradley]. Larva feeds within stems of Common Fleabane.
