Nationally scarce (Na) on high moorland and mountains in northern Scotland, the Orkneys and western Ireland., at lower altitudes in the far north. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 10-12 mm. Similar to
E. tedella but distinguished by the grey-brown labial palpus and head and the more or less confluent basal and subbasal fasciae which form a distinct basal patch on the forewing [Bradley]. Larva mines leaves of Alpine Bearberry.
