Nationally scarce (Nb) in damp meadows, marshes and on river-banks in parts of southern England. Only discovered in Britain in 1996, and the true extent of distribution not yet known. In Hampshire has been recorded in numbers on Plaitford Common (in vice-county 8, on the Hampshire-Wiltshire border) and at Ashurst. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 10-17 mm. Similar to B. lancealana, from which reliably separated only by dissection of the genitalia, but specimens showing two short blackish sub-apical streaks are potentially this species. Larva feeds within stems of Sedge.
