Hantsmoths

Vulnerable (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) in woodland, saltmarshes and on sandy beaches in parts of southern England. In Hampshire recorded in the past from Farley Mount and Crab Wood in the south, and from Micheldever Wood in the north, but recorded recently only from woodland north of Little Somborne. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 12-14 mm. The generally dark brown mixed with yellow coloration of the forewing, the moderately conspicuous yellowish dorsal blotch and the dark hindwing distinguish this from other Lobesia species [Bradley]. Larva feeds within seeds of Wood Spurge and Sea Spurge, over-wintering as a pupa.
