Nationally scarce (Nb) on downland and waste ground in southern England, with records north to Lancashire and Yorkshire. In Hampshire scattered records on the chalk from Cholderton and Martin in the west to Selborne and Oxenbourne Down in the east, and on the chalk north of Portsmouth. On the Isle of Wight, there have been a few records in recent years. Wingspan 12-15 mm. Distinguished from A. francillana and A. beatricella by having the median fascia of the forewing obsolescent in the costal half [Bradley]. Larva feeds on seeds of Wild Parsnip and Hogweed, living between seeds spun together with silk.
