Scarce on rough meadows and waste ground in scattered localities throughout southern England. An attractive, but very local and elusive, species in our counties, it is never found in numbers and appears most common around the Basingstoke area in north Hampshire; re-found on the Isle of Wight in 2014. Wingspan 13-17 mm. Day-flying. The bright orange-yellow ground colour and submetallic markings of the forewing are characteristic [Bradley]. Larva feeds within roots of Common Ragwort.
