Nationally scarce (Nb) on chalk downland and heathland, principally on the coasts of England and Wales, but also inland on the chalk in south-east England. In Hampshire recorded on a very few occasions, at Culver in 1978, Chilling in 1996 and Fareham in 2000. Recorded on the Isle of Wight on five occasions between 1900 and 2009. Wingspan 15-22 mm. Similar to C. stephensiana but with the forewing comparatively narrow, the apex of the forewing more pronounced, especially noticeable on the set specimen, the forewing paler, and the subbasal fascia usually evident in the dorsal area. Can be determined with certainty only by dissection of the genitalia. Larva polyphagous on various herbaceous plants, living within a spun or rolled leaf.
