Classification

Family:Tortricidae
Subfamily:Tortricinae
Genus:Clepsis
Species:coriacanus
Authority:(Rebel, 1894)

Suspected rare immigrant, or perhaps accidentally imported, from southern Europe, originally a resident of the Canary Islands and North Africa. The first record for Britain came from a Rothamsted trap at Ampthill, Bedfordshire, during the period 13 August to 9 September 2007. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. It resembles C. consimilana in general appearance, but is a paler ochreous colour, and the two species can be separated reliably only by dissection of the genitalia. Larva feeds on Dock and Bird's-foot Trefoil.
