Rare. The first confirmed records in Britain were from East Sussex in 1977 and 1983. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 13-19 mm. Superficially this species resembles lightly marked yellowish forms of
Clepsis spectrana, it can, however, be readily distinguished by venational differences in the forewing; in
P. gnomana veins 7 and 8 are stalked from near the middle, whereas in
Clepsis spectrana veins 7 and 8 are separate [Bradley]. Larva polyphagous on various deciduous trees and herbaceous plants, living within a spun or rolled leaf.
