Rare (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) on dry grassland in parts of Scotland. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 7-9 mm. In fresh specimens the uniform coloration of the forewing of the male usually separates it from the males of E. canapennella (MBGBI Vol 3). Larva mines leaves of various grasses.
