Nationally scarce (Na) on sea cliffs and coastal shingle along parts of the coast of the British Isles. In Hampshire known only from Hurst Castle in the west and Browndown, Hayling Island and Eastney in the east. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 10-15 mm. No other Caryocolum species has four large white spots, but these may be much reduced in some specimens, which resemble the darkest forms of other species (MBGBI Vol 4 part 2). Larva feeds on Sea Campion, living between leaves and shoots spun together with silk.
