A very local species, new to Britain in 1983 where it was found on the coast at Axmouth, Devon. It is now known from a few localities eastwards to Hampshire on sparsely vegetated coastlines. In Hampshire, 'many' larvae were noted at Milford-on-Sea in November 1987, but not since - a targetted search may bear fruit. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 13-14 mm. As an imago, can only separable from
S. diffluella by dissection of the genitalia. Double-brooded, flying in June and July and again in August and September. The larva mines the leaves of Colt's-foot, over-wintering as a pupa.
