Nationally scarce (Na) in saltmarshes along the coast of England from Dorset to west Norfolk. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight there are old records from St Helens on the Island and Cracknore Hard in the south of the county, but since 1937 nothing was heard of the species in the region until when, in 2006, two individuals were trapped within a ten day period at Southsea and on Portsea Island. Wingspan 13-15 mm. An infrequent form of S. suaedella is superficially similar to S. instabilella,
