Nationally scarce (Nb) on shingle beaches and dry sandy areas, predominantly on the coast, but also occasionally inland in parts of England, Wales and eastern Scotland; rare in Ireland. Very locally frequent at St Helens, Isle of Wight, while in Hampshire, known only from Sinah Common and Southsea, where first recorded in 1981. Wingspan 8-10 mm. Larva feeds within roots and lower stems of Common Mouse-ear and Field Mouse-ear, living within a silken tube or tent, over-wintering in a cocoon.
