Nationally scarce (Na) in damp open areas in England, south of a line from Wiltshire to Bedfordshire and in south Yorkshire; probably more widespread and possibly fairly common, but elusive (MBGBI Vol 4 part 2). In Hampshire recorded locally in the Portsmouth area and further inland at West Walk. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 9-12 mm. The most likely confusion species is M. moyses, which see for differences. Larva mines stems of Pale Persicaria, over-wintering in a silken chamber.
