Endangered (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) on dry grassy slopes on the Dorset coast, between Portland and Kimmeridge. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 12-18 mm. The most likely confusion species are
H. rufescens and
Brachmia inornatella, which see for differences. Larva feeds within leaves of Cock's-foot, False-brome, Tor-grass, Common Couch and other grasses.
