Nationally scarce (Na) in fens, marshes and on river-banks and recorded only in parts of south-eastern England and East Anglia, until the specimen pictured was unexpectedly trapped at Old Basing in June 2003. The early stages of this species are undescribed, and it is hoped that this new Hampshire site will enable this to be remedied; a recent hunt for larvae proved inconclusive however. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 11-15 mm. Could be confused with
Helcystogramma lutatella, but that species does not have the termen of the forewing distinctly sinuate (MBGBI Vol 4 part 2). Larva feeds within stems of Common Reed.
