Originally an endemic species to New Zealand, where it is found across that country. Undoubtedly imported to Britain through this country's poor biosecurity standards in the horticultural industry, it has now been added to the British list after several records were attracted to light in Bedfordshire and Huntingdonshire between 2012 and 2018.
In its native country, the preferred habitat of
T. conritella is New Zealand native forest and the larvae are leaf litter feeders. Adults are on the wing from November to February in New Zealand, however in the UK, e.g.
Bedfordshire it has been found in July.
