Nationally scarce (Na) in oak woodland in the south of England, northwards to Staffordshire and The Wash; a few records from Lincolnshire to Co. Durham (MBGBI Vol 3). In Hampshire there are very few records, and the species is evidently very scarce. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 16-18 mm. Readily distinguished from Y. alpella, or pale forms of Y. ustella, by the pale head and thorax (MBGBI Vol 3). Larva feeds on Oak, beneath a silken web, over-wintering as an egg.
