Common in heathland and open woodland throughout much of the British Isles. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight common wherever birch occurs. Wingspan 9-13 mm. Larva feeds on Silver Birch and Downy Birch, beneath a silken web, over-wintering as a pupa in a cocoon.
