Vulnerable (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) in and around buildings throughout Britain and Ireland. Recorded on the Isle of Wight basis the general comment in Goater (1974) that K G Blair thought it 'fairly common' in the Freshwater area, with no further details. The only confirmed record in Hampshire is of two individuals taken at Hillier Garden Centre, Braishfield by Brian Elliott (gen det) on 15 April 2014. Wingspan 8-17 mm. Similar to both T. lanella, known only from a wool warehouse in Liverpool in 1922, and T. murariella, another rare and seldom recorded adventive. Larva feeds on fur, feathers and dead insects.
