Common throughout much of Britain, but not in northern Scotland. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight well-distributed and reasonably common throughout. Wingspan 4-5.2 mm. Adults difficult to distinguish from other
Stigmella species, and more frequently recorded in the larval stage, when mines are relatively easy to find where they are present, but much confused in the past with
