Classification

Family:Noctuidae
Subfamily:Heliothinae
Genus:Protoschinia
Species:scutosa
Authority:([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Rare immigrant from mainland Europe, appearing in southern and eastern Britain. The distribution of the records suggests that most of the moths came across the North Sea, and their coincidence with years of occurrence of the species in northern Europe supports this. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight there is a single record of this species, taken at Seaview on the Island on 3 July 1959. Wingspan 30-36 mm. Larva feeds on Field Wormwood and Goosefoot, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
