Hantsmoths

Recorded infrequently through accidental importation in Alpine plants from southern Europe. One was taken at bramble-blossom at Castle Kevin, Co. Wicklow, in August 1887 and eventually identified at the British Museum (Natural History), London. This may have been a natural immigrant, but more probably was the result of introduction, perhaps with garden plants. Wingspan 34-46 mm. It is unlikely that records of this species will be accepted unless the specimen is retained for examination. Larva feeds on Monk's-hood, Columbine, Larkspur and Alpine Meadow-rue.
