Very rare immigrant from southern Europe, appearing as a migrant in the UK once, at Minsmere RSPB reserve, Suffolk, on 14 September 2004 (from which the vernacular 'Minsmere Crimson Underwing' was derived). Wingspan 50-64mm. Distinguished from Light and Dark Crimson Underwing by the shape of the postmedian line on the forewing and, on the hindwing, the median fascia, which is straighter and slender, narrowing to its dorsal extremity. The larva feeds on Evergreen Oak, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
