Very rare immigrant from mainland Europe. Between 1815 and 1859 two specimens were taken in Berkshire, one in Essex, one in Yorkshire and three in north Wales; there has been no subsequent record. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 33-42 mm. Unmistakable. Larva feeds on various herbaceous plants and grasses.
