Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records) from sandy areas in the mountains of southern Europe, appearing on the south coast. Recorded four times in Britain: Kingsham, West Sussex on 29 May 2005; Abbortskerswell, Dorset on 12 June 2006; Totland, Isle of Wight on 5 May 2011; Newport, Isle of Wight on 6 May 2011. Not recorded from Hampshire to date. Wingspan 35-45 mm. Larva feeds on Common Sorrel, Sheep's Sorrel and Dock; no evidence of breeding in the UK.
