Local on sea cliffs, saltmarshes, waste ground and other open areas throughout much of England and Wales, predominantly coastal. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight uncommon and chiefly coastal, although a few individuals have turned up in North Hampshire in recent years. Wingspan 21-23 mm. Sandy-grey with a distinctive, undulating, white subterminal fascia. Larva feeds on shoots of Goosefoot and Orache, over-wintering as a pupa.
