A rare Red Data Book species, restricted to mature lime woodland in the Wye Valley, and parts of East Anglia. In Hampshire has been recorded in the past from a few sites in the New Forest, but not since 1998, and annual in Northwood Park, Crawley, between 2004 and 2007. The first and so far only Wight record was in 2016. Wingspan 21-24 mm. The main confusion species is Larch Pug E. lariciata, which has sharply angulated postmedian fascia and white spot on crest of thorax. Larva feeds on flowers of Small-leaved Lime, over-wintering as a pupa.
