Local in woodland, hedgerows, marshes and fens, and on roadside verges throughout much of England and Wales; widespread and reasonably common in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 17-21 mm. Easily identified by the presence of white spots on termen of both fore- and hindwings, on side of abdomen, and on back of thorax. Larva feeds on Wild Angelica, Elder, Cow Parsley, Hogweed, Wild Parsnip and Wild Carrot, over-wintering as a pupa.
