Common in calcareous grassland, rough ground and gardens throughout the British Isles; present in most of Hampshire, but distinctly uncommon on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 16-20 mm. The main confusion species is Foxglove Pug E. pulchellata; in Foxglove Pug, the outer edge of the central cross-band is kinked at the costa, while in Toadflax Pug the central cross-band is gently curved at the costa. Larva feeds on Common Toadflax and Snapdragon, often in the capsules, over-wintering as a pupa.
