Common in damp woodland and scrub throughout much of England, southern Scotland and Wales. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight widespread but always uncommon. Wingspan 32-40 mm. Unmistakable. Larva feeds on Sallow, Aspen and Bilberry, over-wintering as a pupa.
