Common in broad-leaved woodland and hedgerows throughout the British Isles. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight widespread and fairly frequent in areas where Field Maple occurs, and apparently able to colonise even isolated trees. Wingspan 20-22 mm. Unmistakable. Larva feeds on Field Maple, Sycamore and Alder, over-wintering as a pupa.
