Rare (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) on coastal sand-dunes in south-eastern England. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 24-30 mm. Though variable in the amount of fuscous irroration, this is an unmistakable species: the chequered fringe distinguishes it at once [Goater]. Larva feeds within roots of various grasses, living within a silken tube or tent.
