Local on dry heathland, sand-dunes and other dry sandy areas throughout much of England; rare in Scotland. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight frequent in the New Forest, widespread but local elsewhere. Wingspan 22-27 mm. Unmistakable: in no other British species does the median streak extend on to the fringe [Goater]. Larva feeds on roots of False-brome and Upright Brome, living within a silken tube or tent.
