Common in grassland and rough meadows throughout the British Isles. Widespread and common in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 18-22 mm. The only confusion species is C. pratella, but C. lathoniellus is smaller, and the median longitudinal streak is narrower with the anterior edge straight, not angulated [Goater]. Larva feeds within roots and lower stems of various grasses.
