Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records) to southern England from North Africa, southern Spain and the Canary Islands. First recorded at Blandford, Dorset, in January 1999. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 18-20 mm. Forewing is without stigmata or distinct paler or darker fasciae, most similar to
Gymnancyla canella, in which some forms have forewing discal dots rather faint, but this species has long and upward pointing labial palps, whereas in
A. pallens they are short and forward pointing [Goater]. Larva and life-cycle undescribed, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
