Recorded infrequently through accidental importation in dates from North Africa and the Middle East. A larva was found feeding in dates bought in London in May 1917, and one was reported from Canterbury, Kent at a later date. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 28-46 mm. Large and sandy-coloured. Larva feeds on dried fruit, causing sufficient damage to be a serious pest in some areas; no evidence of breeding in the UK.
