A vulnerable Red Data Book species, in deciduous woodland and scrubland; 0-300 m (50-1500 m in Europe) in parts of southern England, south-western England; mainland Europe and southern Scandinavia. In Hampshire the two principal sites are at Shipton Bellinger and Noar Hill, but they can be difficult to see as they spend much of the time high in ash trees. There are scattered records elsewhere in the county and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 34-36 mm. Larva feeds on Blackthorn.
