A vulnerable Red Data Book species, in sand-dunes, rough grassland, chalk downland, limestone pavements, heaths and rough ground; 50-400 m (50-2000 m in Europe) in parts of the British Isles, more numerous in the south; mainland Europe and Scandinavia. In Hampshire common at Noar Hill and Martin Down and present elsewhere in the county and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 26-28 mm. Larva feeds on Bird's-foot Trefoil and Horseshoe Vetch.
