A rare species found in scattered woodland localities in the south and east of England. In Hampshire recorded just once, at Kites Croft near Fareham in June 2001. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 11-13 mm. Resembles
C. linneella but differs in the orange ground colour of the forewing, which is divided into two spots by a broad blackish brown band from costa to dorsum and by the presence of a patch of erect dark scales in the second dorsal spot (MBGBI Vol 4 part 1). Larva feeds within bark of White Willow.
