Nationally scarce (Na) in peat bogs and marshe, very locally distributed throughout the British Isles, most frequently in western Scotland and western Ireland. The species is univoltine, flying from June to early August. The larva is greyish-green with a black head, and mines Carex species, particularly Carnation Sedge (Carex panicea) and Common Sedge (C. nigra), in May and June. The only record for Hampshire, labelled Southampton, 6 August 1938 seems unlikely but was accepted by Goater (1974). Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 7-8 mm. Larva mines leaves of Sedge and Common Cotton-sedge.
