Nationally scarce (Na) on grassy slopes, roadside verges and waste ground in parts of south-eastern England, extending as far inland as Oxfordshire. In Hampshire recorded recently only from Portchester Common with old records from Droxford, Leckford, Martyr Worthy and Martin Down. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 14-19 mm. Very similar to
C. galbulipennella. Like many of the
Coleophora, imagines are virtually impossible to identify without recourse to dissection, and the larvae, which live in cases of characteristic form and which can sometimes be found on the foodplant, may be easier to identify by comparison against a reference collection. Larva feeds within seed capsules of Nottingham Catchfly and Bladder Campion, living within a movable case.
