Nationally scarce (Nb) in damp heathland, mosses and bogs in parts of north-western England and Scotland. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan male 13-15 mm, female 11-12 mm. The most likely confusion species is B. galbanella, which see for differences. Larva feeds on various mosses, living within a silken tube or tent.
