Endangered (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) on damp heathland and mosses in south-eastern England, a priority species under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan. In Hampshire recorded in the past from Southampton, Hook Common and Silchester, but not recorded in the county since 1973. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 10-11 mm. It may be separated from Aproaerema anthyllidella by the presence of a few yellowish ochreous scales on the fold and dark stigmata (MBGBI Vol 4 part 2), but identification often only possible by dissection of the genitalia. Larva feeds on Petty Whin, living between leaves spun together with silk.
