Nationally scarce (Na) in woodland margins on chalky soils and fens in parts of south-eastern England. In Hampshire the only confirmed records are from Winchester in 1991, Abbotstone Down in 1994 and Micheldever Spoil Heaps in 2006. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 8.5-10.5 mm. Can only be separated from
S. lophyrella and
S. janiszewskae by dissection of the genitalia. Larva feeds on buds, shoots and flowers of Alder Buckthorn and Buckthorn, living between flowers and leaves spun together with silk.
